A brief (but powerful) look at character

A hard-driving boss was barking orders to his staff.

“Do THIS!” he shouted.

“Don’t do THAT!” he commanded.

It was time to test the new employee, who had started earlier that week.

As the boss walked toward the new staff member, the phone began to ring.

“Pick it up and tell them I’m busy,” the boss said.

“I can’t do that, sir,” the employee answered.

“You CAN and you WILL!” the boss countered.

“I will not,” the new staffer repeated. “If I am capable of lying FOR for you, then I am capable of lying TO you.”

Long pause.

“Very well then,” he said. “Transfer the call to me.”

With that, the boss pivoted and veered toward his office.

And that, friends, is a brief (but powerful) study in character.
